"From clean energy to the world's food supply: GBI Green Fertilizer Complex drives sustainable agriculture with 2,000,000 tons/year of low-carbon, renewable fertilizer."
Replacing imports and driving the Thai economy with green innovation: The first and largest green urea and ammonium sulfate fertilizer plant in ASEAN, aiming to stabilize Thai farmers and revolutionize the agricultural industry of the future. Transforming green ammonia into a low-carbon fertilizer producer with a capacity of 2 million tons per year, striving to be a global leader in food security.
Project Information
- Project Name : Special Project: Green Fertilizer Complex (Ranong Hub) Under the management of Golden Bridge International Holding (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (GBI Holding)
- Target Customers :
1. Domestic Group: Agricultural cooperatives, large companies in the Thai agricultural processing industry, and farmers in the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC)
2. International Group: Trading markets in the East Asia region (Japan, South Korea) and the European Union (EU) that require low-carbon fertilizers to reduce carbon border adjustment mechanisms (CBAM)
- Principles and Rationale :
Currently, Thailand needs to import chemical fertilizers from abroad at a cost of several billion baht per year, facing risks from price volatility and global geopolitical issues. With the global trend toward carbon neutrality by 2026, GBI Holding sees the opportunity to utilize "green ammonia" (Green Ammonia) with a production capacity of 1.2 million tons per year, a by-product of our clean energy network, to maximize its value and replace the export of raw materials.
Objectives :
1. To create added value for green ammonia in GBI Holding's supply chain.2. To support the Thai government's food security agenda by producing chemical fertilizers domestically to replace imports.
3. To establish the first and largest low-carbon chemical fertilizer industry in the ASEAN region.
Key Targets :
Production Targets : Produce both premium chemical fertilizers combined to achieve a total volume of at least 2,000,000 tons per year (2 million tons/year), divided as follows:- Green Urea : 1,050,000 tons/year
- Green Ammonium Sulfate : 950,000 - 1,000,000 tons/year
Marketing Goal : To allocate 60% of the production to replace domestic imports and 40% to exports to generate revenue for the country.
Requirements :
Raw Materials : 100% renewable ammonia must be used as the primary feedstock, and CO2 capture technology from related industries must be incorporated into the urea fertilizer production process.Safety : The plant structure and high-pressure chemical storage tanks must be designed with advanced safety blast walls and a safety buffer zone strictly adhering to international NFPA standards.
Environment : The entire production process must be a closed system (zero discharge), releasing no pollutants or chemical residues into surrounding waters and communities.
Location/Area :
Located within the supporting industrial park complex of GBI Holding's business group, in the logistics network connection area of the Gulf of Thailand (Chumphon Province), for convenient receipt of raw materials via pipelines and distribution of products to ports.
Budget :
- Investment Budget for Construction and Technology Procurement (Turnkey / EPC Contract) : Approximately 15,750 million baht (based on Thai baht currency reference)
Timeline :
- Construction and System Testing Period (EPC Phase) : 24 - 30 months (commencing immediately after the Cabinet's green light decision and completion of EIA/EHIA)
- Project Payback Period : 4.5 - 5.5 years after commencement of commercial operations (COD)
Responsible Parties :
GBI Holding Group Co., Ltd. is a joint venture with a global strategic partner from the Middle East (Thai ownership ratio: 51%; foreign ownership ratio: 49%), under the policy oversight of the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
Expected Outcomes :
1. Thailand will have a large-scale domestic source of low-carbon fertilizer feedstock, reducing dependence on imports from other countries sustainably2. Thai farmers will have access to high-quality fertilizers at stable prices, unaffected by global crises
3. Significant revenue will be generated from exporting Green Label fertilizer products to international markets, enhancing the country's competitive edge
4. Attract confidence from Middle Eastern investors, showcasing the value and well-rounded business ecosystem of GBI Holding
