"A closed-system, green data center fortress offering the highest level of security and cooling efficiency in the region."
A closed-system data center industrial park, isolated from communities, with 100% physical and cybersecurity control.
Project Information
- Project Name : Ranong Green Data Center Hub & Cold Energy Recovery Innovation Project
- Client :
1. Global hyperscalers and big tech companies
2. International financial institutions and FinTech (Financial & Sovereign Wealth Funds)
3. Global telecom and OTT providers
4. Digital security agencies and large domestic enterprises - Background & Rationale :
Over 40% of the total cost of conventional data centers goes towards the cooling system to prevent servers from overheating. The Ranong Green Data Center Hub addresses this issue by establishing a clean energy data center on a large land plot, utilizing the "Cold Energy Recovery" technology to capture and recycle the cold energy waste from the LNG and liquid hydrogen (LH2) processes at Zone C's tank farm. This cold energy, with temperatures below -160 to -253 degrees Celsius, is directly channeled through a high-pressure heat exchange system into the data center's cooling infrastructure, providing 24/7 support. This self-reliant innovation reduces electricity consumption in the cooling system by over 50%, offering the highest business advantage in the Asia-Pacific region.
Objectives :
1. To establish a green data center (Green Data Center) with the lowest cooling energy management costs in the region using Cold Energy Recovery technology2. To support the storage and high-level processing (Cloud & AI Computing) of international investment groups, ADGM funds, and the energy logistics system along the Andaman coast
3. To create a cutting-edge renewable energy innovation prototype that integrates the energy (Energy) and digital (Digital Infrastructure) sectors on a strategic large-scale land site
Key Targets :
1. Develop a top-tier, internationally certified (Tier IV Certified) data center : Located on the mainland, it accommodates high-density server racks in a fault-tolerant architecture that is virtually indestructible.2. Implement a closed-loop glycol cooling system : Piping connects from the tank farm in Zone C to provide 24/7 cooling support for the data center's main air conditioning system.
3. Reduce Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to a record low : Aiming for a PUE below 1.1, exceeding international standards, by reducing cooling costs by more than 50%.
Key Requirements :
1. Engineering Standards and Urban Planning Safety : The cold energy transfer system must pass high-pressure and safety tests, and the area must receive approval for a green urban planning category for high-tech industries2. National Investment Incentives and Rights : The project must obtain telecommunications business licenses, rights to direct power wheeling from the 1,000MW power plant, and maximum tax exemption benefits from the Board of Investment (BOI), along with approval from the Cabinet.
Location/Area :
- Location : Zone F (Andaman Sea, Ranong) *(1 Rai = 1,600 Square Meters)*
- Area : Large land plot totaling 400 rai, located along Phetchkasem Road, strategically positioned just 4 kilometers from the 1,000MW power plant (Zone A) and 2.8 kilometers from the Tank Farm (LNG/LH2) in Zone C, supporting large-scale data center buildings, equipment storage facilities, substation, and safety barriers around the project
Budget :
- Total Turnkey (EPC) Budget : 21,600 Million Baht(THB) (Reference in Thai Baht)
Timeline :
- Preparation and EHIA : 6 - 9 months (starting immediately after receiving operational support)
- Construction and Commissioning : 24 - 30 months
Responsible Parties :
- Contract Management and Land Acquisition : Golden Bridge Investment Holding (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (GBI Holding) as the landowner and coordinator of the energy systems between zones
Expected Outcomes :
1. It has attracted overwhelming interest from global tech giants (such as Microsoft, Google, AWS) and Arab funds seeking to lease truly energy-efficient and environmentally friendly data centers.2. It generates significantly higher cash flow and net profit margins than typical data centers due to over 50% savings on cooling system electricity costs.
3. It will elevate the value of the 400-rai plot along Phetchkasem Road owned by GBI Holding, making it the most valuable digital infrastructure location in the southern region throughout its 50-year operational lifespan.
